GOMOLAVA<\/p>\n

Gomolava is a world-famous archaeological site on the outskirts of Hrtkovci on the left bank of the Sava River, which, with its wealth of diverse finds, through several different archaeological layers, testifies to the life of people in this area since prehistoric times. At the end of the 19th century, the first archaeological material was collected in this area, and in 1904, the first professional excavations were carried out.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Due to its good geographical position and connections with other regions, Gomolava was an important center for the Danube Region, the Carpathian Basin and Southeastern Europe for several thousand years.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
At Gomolava, a large Roman necropolis was discovered. Roman residence in this area is also evidenced by rustic villas. The largest part of the archaeological material found is in the Vojvodina Museum in Novi Sad, and a smaller part is exhibited in the Local Museum in Ruma.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Despite the fact that Gomolava is under the protection of the state as an archaeological site of exceptional importance, threatened by the Sava river that washes it, Gomolava is a „disappearing city“.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Among the interesting discoveries are clay models of beehives, which belong to the Star\u010devo culture from the Neolithic period. They are around 7500-8000 years old and indicate that people of the Stone Age in the area of \u200b\u200btoday’s northern Serbia engaged in beekeeping.<\/h1>\n

BASIANA<\/p>\n

Basijana is an archaeological site from the Roman era, which is located next to the road, on the approach to the village of Donji Petrovci from the direction of Ruma. It is a Roman fortification, which expanded into a town settlement, the largest in Srem after ancient Sirmium. Unfortunately, Basiana is an insufficiently explored locality, so its configuration is visible only from the air.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

ADZA’S FIELDS<\/p>\n

The new archaeological site „Ad\u017eine njive Brajkovo 2“ (ADZA’S FIELDS Brajkovo 2) in the atar of the village of Klenak, which bears witness to the last eight thousand years of life in this area, recently was presented.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Director Branislava Konjevi\u0107 and Uro\u0161 Nikoli\u0107, a conservator archaeologist who participates in field research, attended the media conference in the premises of the local community in Klenak in front of the Ruma Local Museum.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Findings from almost all epochs of human life in our area have been confirmed, on an incredible 56,000 square meters, representing one of the largest excavations in the history of Serbian archaeology.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Entities from the Late Stone Age, the Copper and Iron Ages, Celtic and Roman civilizations, Slavic tribes, and medieval states, up to the present day were explored.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Excavations at the new location are being carried out as part of protective archaeological works on the route of the future highway Loznica – Ruma. In cooperation with the „Corridor of Serbia“, AZVIRT Serbia, the Archaeological Institute in Belgrade, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Sremska Mitrovica and the Local Museum of Ruma, the excavations have so far provided fascinating and in some cases unique findings, which were discussed at the press conference by Dr. Miroslav Ko\u010di\u0107 from the Archaeological Institute.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
